How to Program a Remote
Programming your LiftMaster remote is a straightforward process. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you through it and program a remote to the Liftmaster 1280 garage door operator:
- Locate the Learn Button: Open the light lens on your garage door opener to access the Learn button.
- Press and Release the Learn Button: Press and release the Learn button. The LED next to it will light up.
- Press the Remote Button: Within 30 seconds, press and hold the button on your remote control that you wish to program.
- Wait for the Click: Release the button when the garage door opener motor unit lights blink. It is a sign that the remote control has been programmed.
Compatible Remotes
The compatible remotes and keypad for the Liftmaster 1200 series of garage door operators with the red/orange Learn button are the 971LM 1-Button Remote, 973LM 3-Button Remote, 970LM Keychain Remote and the 977LM Wireless Keyless Entry. As of this writing, the 971LM Remote is still being produced and is available but the others have been discontinued. If you want a 3-button remote, a keychain remote or a wireless keypad then you should use the 893MAX Liftmaster 3-Button Remote, 890MAX Liftmaster Keychain Remote and the 878MAX Liftmaster Wireless Keyless Entry respectively.
